Indigo Hotel – Rich Wenge Herringbone

Having secured the contract to carry out the hardwood flooring installation at the new Hotel Indigo, currently under construction in the heart of the financial district in Glasgow city centre, this week we will begin the setting out and installation of the beautiful rich Wenge parquet flooring in the bar area. We were originally approached by the interior designers and asked to forward some design ideas and flooring solutions that would complement the beautiful 100 year old building while embracing the boutique hotel concept. A case study presentation of the extensive parquet work we had undertaken at the world famous Turnberry Resort and Hotel in the summer of 2009 sold the designers and architects on the concept of installing a dark Wenge parquet floor, in a herringbone pattern, in the bar area. While quite a refined design option the use of black exotic african Wenge lends a contemporary air to this traditional style not may other timber choices can offer.

Wenge is a very distinctive looking wood, with a dark brown heartwood. It has very close, fine black veins and white lines. Native to Africa, Wenge is a hard, durable and stable timber.

Update and photos will appear as the job progresses.
